FAQ

What makes Rock Stepper different from the other playmats on the market?

Rock Stepper was born from an idea to create a premium, stylish and educational playmat. The playmat market featured either brightly coloured illustrations aimed for children only or mats with subtle patterns to complement different interior styles, we felt that there wasn’t a mat that brought the two together.

Spotting a gap in the market for a stylish and versatile educational playmat, we have created a mat that complements the Early Years school curriculum and looks beautiful in the home too. Rock Stepper encourages a less sedentary form of learning, through movement and interaction. With the use of our flashcards children can play a variety of games and build on their recognition of letters, numbers, shapes and colours. The app gives adults access to educational games (such as phonics, numbers and spellings) that they can play together with the child on the mat.

Our mat is multi-functional, versatile and has longevity. We understand as parents that there are times when you don’t want to see your child’s paraphernalia lying around the home and so the reverse side of our mat has a subtle design to complement your interiors. The mat is supportive and safe, and made to last so that it can be enjoyed by the whole family.

What sizes does the Rock Stepper playmat come in?

We currently only have one size for our mat, 190 cm × 140 cm × 1.3 cm. Made from 1.3cm thick memory foam, our mat is sturdy and has rounded corners.

Please note that our mat can stretch by a few centimetres once it has been unrolled and remain flat in your home.

How do I clean our playmat and is there anything we should be careful of?

For everyday cleaning we recommend wiping the playmat with a soft damp microfibre cloth. For a thorough clean use a mild/ph balance soap (washing up liquid), diluted with warm water. Be gentle – do not be tempted to apply too much pressure when wiping as this may damage and remove the colour of the playmat. Always allow the playmat to dry completely before using it again or if you are planning on storing it away.

Avoid using baby wipes/ anti-bacterial wipes and harsh cleaning agents as prolonged use causes discolouration and can damage the playmat. Please check ingredients carefully before use, as some natural sprays may contain alcohol, natural acids or essential oils which can cause discolouration. We do not recommend using strong or abrasive cleaning products.

If you need to use further cleaning products outside of our recommendation, please note this will be at the user’s own risk and discretion.

Any damages or side effects from using any cleaning method outside of our recommendation is not covered by our Warranty policy.

Vacuum cleaners suction power varies according to different models, and some may leave marks if used on the playmat. We recommend using a soft brush to sweep off any unwanted debris and crumbs.

Our playmats are waterproof thanks to a fully sealed upper layer so you can wipe away any spillages with a soft cloth or sponge.

Do not use any sharp or hot objects on the playmat, as it may cause puncture damages.

Do not place heavy furniture or weights on the playmat as it will cause long lasting dents in the memory foam and may cause puncture damages over time.

Do not leave in direct sunlight to avoid heat damage / discolouration.

Do not use pens/ permanent ink/ marker on the playmat as these marks are not removable.

Food colourings, nail varnish, citrus fruits, berries, tomato sauces and foods with turmeric can stain the playmat. Our playmat is not suitable for steam cleaning.

Not suitable for pets as sharp claws may cause puncture damages or scratch the playmat, or they may chew the corners.

Please see the warranty conditions in the Terms and Conditions page.

How can I get my Rock Stepper playmat to uncurl?

Our mats are rolled up tightly in individual packaging boxes. Once taken out, unroll the playmat in the reverse direction to release minor creasing and for it to settle back into its new position. Depending on how long the mat has been rolled in the box, it can take up to a couple of days. Other tips to help it lay flat, re-roll the mat in the opposite direction to how it was rolled in the box and flex the mat in the opposite direction. Our mats are made from a premium memory foam, it can take a while for the mat to remember its new flat position.

Please note that our mat can stretch by a few centimetres once they have been unrolled and remain flat in your home.

Can the Rock Stepper playmat be used for Pilates and Yoga?

Made from a thick, cushioning memory foam, our mat makes it the perfect exercise mat for Pilates, Yoga, stretching and mindfulness meditations.

Can I use my Rock Stepper playmat outside?

If you do plan on moving your mat from indoors to out, please bear in mind that direct sunlight and heat can cause discolouration. Depending on what surface it is placed upon, sharp stones, gravel or objects can scratch and damage the surface.

What flooring types are the Rock Stepper playmat suitable for? Will underfloor heating damage my playmat?

Our playmat is fine to use on flooring with underfloor heating. As our mat is made from a heavier memory foam, they are stable and sturdy on wood, tiled, cement and carpeted flooring. However, may be less so on high pile carpeting or on surfaces that are slippery/ polished.

Why is there a small code on my playmat?

The small code is in accordance with UK and European Standards and ensures each playmat is traceable to its manufacture date.

What material is the Rock Stepper playmat made from?

Our playmat’s luxurious thick foam is non-toxic, waterproof, easy to clean and reversible – it’s everything you want in a versatile playmat.

Made from a non- toxic PVC memory foam, our mat does not contain the toxic nasties such as BPA, phthalates, lead, latex, formamide, formaldehyde, EVA and flame retardants.

The mat has optimal cushioning, protecting children from hard impacts and has an anti-slip surface. We have spent a great deal of time looking for a manufacturer who understands the importance of creating a safe and high-quality product.

When will my baby/toddler enjoy the Rock Stepper playmat?

Our playmat has been created for both child and parent in mind. Babies can enjoy tummy time on our mat as it cushions them from the hard floor beneath. Placing your baby on their tummy for short periods of time promotes the development of your newborn’s motor skills and muscles, in particular head, neck and upper body strength. As our mat is made from a soft memory foam, it not only protects and cushions your little one’s knees and wrists during playtime but also when they are learning to sit, walk and crawl. As your baby grows into a toddler, they will become more engaged with the images on the mat and when ready you can introduce the flashcards (age 2+) and use the app for game inspiration and play. The reverse side of the mat has a subtle design, perfect for older children who want to use it as a play rug instead.

What are the Rock Stepper flashcards?

We believe young children should primarily learn through play. Our flashcards can be used in conjunction with our mat to make learning fun and interactive.

Flashcards can improve cognitive development, improve fine motor skills and stimulate independent thinking. Inside our flashcards pack you will find suggestions on activities you can play with your child.

Use our cards to describe, explain and encourage a conversation with your toddler/child. They will be much more receptive to learning if the experience is interactive as it makes it more fun and like play, which is how children learn. For example, link the pictures, letters, numbers, colours and shapes on the cards to the mat and to items around your home. Ask your child to point to colours that match the colour shown on the mat and flashcard. Interactive play like this reinforces learning and gives the child the independence to provide the answer themselves.

What are your standards and certifications?

We know how important safety is for your little ones. Our Rock Stepper playmat has been tested independently and is compliant with both UK and European EN71 Toy standards and has the CE mark. Our mats are from non- toxic PVC memory foam and do not contain the toxic nasties – BPA, phthalates, lead, latex, formamide, formaldehyde, EVA and flame retardants.
